24 X 40 (with frame)

Mary Ann Carroll (1940 - 2014) was the only female of the original 26 Florida Highwaymen.  Beloved by all of her fellow painters, Carroll was able to support herself and her seven children by selling her artwork during the time of the Jim Crow laws.  Later in Life, she was celebrated by Michelle Obama and inducted into the Florida Artist’s Hall of Fame in 2004.

Harold Newton was integral in teaching Carroll technique and form and she credits him with introducing her to the group. Carroll enjoyed over seven decades of a career as an artist.
