Christian Midjo (Norway / American, New York, 1880-1973)
16 X 16 in with frame
A portrait and landscape painter, Midjo's Scandinavian heritage always stayed at the heart of his work. Born April 8, 1880, he grew up and studied in Norway, then finished his studies with distinction at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen in 1903.
He moved to Chicago in 1906 and took a position at Cornell University in 1909. He made Full Professor in 1921 and stayed until his retirement in 1946. Professor Midjo painted a number of portraits of Cornell faculty members which still adorn the walls at the university today.
