During the time of Vermeer, there were many notable Dutch painters vying for popularity. Among them were, Gerard her Borch, Gabriel Metsu and Caspar Netscher.  It was called the Dutch Golden Age.  This painting is from a follower of Netscher and exemplifies the student surpassing the master.  Over 200 years have past and this painting is as beautiful as the day it was created.
